liangyiIn the application of Xuan Kong Liu Fa (玄空六法), Ci Xiong Jue (雌雄决) is of foremost priority. This is reflected in the first sentence of the Fengshui Classic Qing Nang Xu (青囊序), where the Classic has also pointed out the usage sequence of the 四决 of Xuan Kong Liu Fa, namely Ci Xiong Jue (雌雄决), Jin Long Jue (金龙决), Ai Xing Jue (挨星决) and Cheng Men Jue (城门决).

Ci Xiong (雌雄) refers to the physical landforms of Yin and Yang nature; e.g., the Mountains and Streams. Together, the mountains and streams of a land will form a particular Formation (局), and the way to recognize the formation is known as Ci Xiong Jue (雌雄决), in which recognizing the Incoming Dragon (来龙) and Qi Mouth (气口) are crucial aspects of Ci Xiong Jue.

《易》 says “Tai Ji (太极) give rise to Liang Yi (两仪), Liang Yi give rise to Si Xiang (四象), Si Xiang give rise to Ba Gua (八卦)…” (太极生两仪,两仪生四象,四象生八卦...). From which stage onwards, i.e., Tai Ji, Liang Yi, Si Xiang, Ba Gua…, is the recognition of physical landforms of Yin and Yang nature possible? Clearly, it is Liang Yi (两仪)! This is the moment where two mutually opposite but complementary aspects of Yin Yang are formed; the Yang Yi (阳仪) and Yin Yi (阴仪).

Therefore, if a physical landform in question comprise of Mountains or Solid (山、实一片) on one side, Streams or Emptiness (水、空一片) on the other side, what particular formation is being formed?

In Ci Xiong Jue of Xuan Kong Liu Fa, such formation formed is known as the Liang Yi Formation (两仪局)! Comprising of Mountains or Solid (山、实一片) on one side, Streams or Emptiness (水、空一片) on the other side.

And in accordance to the usage sequence of the Xuan Kong Liu Fa in Qing Nang Xu, after having recognized the formation formed by the Ci Xiong (雌雄) of a land in Ci Xiong Jue, one next assess if the Qi Mouth of the formation receives Auspicious or Inauspicious Qi, as per Jin Long Jue. For example, in Period 8 we know that the Period Ling Shen is at Qian (乾), Dui (兑), Gen (艮) and Li Gua (离), and the arrival of Period Ling Shen at the Qi Mouth means the arrival of Auspicious Qi.

However, as the name already says, since it is Liang Yi, do you think the Liang Yi formation is able to receive any Qi from any of the Ba Gua or 24 mountains (二十四山), whether from Qian, Dui, Gen, Li Gua, or even Kan (坎), Kun (坤), Zhen (震) or Xun Gua (巽)? Or, do you think the Liang Yi formation even need to use any of the Ba Gua or 24 mountains to receive Qi?

The answer is No! But wouldn't that means one is unable to use Jin Long Jue and Ai Xing Jue for Liang Yi formation?

How then does Liang Yi formation receives Qi? How then does one assess if a Liang Yi formation is Auspicious or Inauspicious? How then does one uses Jin Long Jue and Ai Xing Jue for Liang Yi formation? What should the facing/ sitting be for Liang Yi formation? Based on Xuan Kong or 理气心印, the answer lies in the Cheng Men Jue of Liang Yi Formation (两仪局之城门决)!

Ci Xiong Jue (雌雄决) is of foremost priority because only when one recognizes what formation is being formed, one can then use Jin Long Jue, Ai Xing Jue and Cheng Men Jue appropriately according to the formation. As such, the opening of the Fengshui classic 《青囊序》 is “杨公养老雌雄…”!
