Just how important is the external environment? The key to Auspicious and Inauspicious in Fengshui lies on the external environment; the physical landforms! The arrival of Period Ling Shen (零神) at the Qi Mouth of the Formation formed by the physical landforms of Yin and Yang nature means the arrival of Auspicious Qi. Likewise, the arrival of Period Zheng Shen (正神) at the Incoming Dragon of the Formation formed by the physical landforms of Yin and Yang nature means the arrival of Auspicious Qi.
And according to “水主财禄山人丁”, where Water governs Wealth, Mountain governs Health and People, the arrival of Period Ling Shen at the Qi Mouth is Auspicious with regards to Wealth whereas the arrival of Period Zheng Shen at the Incoming Dragon is Auspicious with regards to Health and People.
This saying “Water governs Wealth, Mountain governs Health and People (水主財祿山人丁)”, mentioned in the Fengshui Classic Qing Nang Xu (青囊序), is commonly spoken of by many Fengshui practitioners. Yet not many know the principle behind this saying in the Classic. Based on Yi Li (易理) principle of Distinct Usage of Yin and Yang (阴阳分用), Yang being the Outside and Yin being the Inside, with the Male (Xiong, 雄) governing the outside and producing wealth and the Female (Ci, 雌) governing the inside and bearing offspring; signifying the breadwinner role of the male and the fertility role of the female. Thus the Incoming Dragon being Yin (Ci, 雌) represents Health and People and Qi Mouth being Yang (Xiong, 雄) represents Weath!
By now, one may inevitably ask, “Since the key to Auspicious and Inauspicious in Fengshui lies on the external environment, does this mean one can safely ignore the Fengshui of the internal environment since it is of lesser importance?” Clearly, the answer is no. Knowing the Yi Li principle of Distinct Usage of Yin and Yang, therefore, there are also important distinction and usage differences between the External Environment and Internal Environment!
Taking Wealth as an example, the external environment, to be precise, governs the auspiciousness with regards to the Wealth Source (财源)! Hence, the receiving of Auspicious Qi from the arrival of Period Ling Shen at the Qi Mouth of the Formation formed by the external physical landforms of Yin and Yang is in fact auspicious with regards to the Wealth Source! On the other hand, the internal environment governs Wealth Preservation (守财)! Thus, if the external environment of a property is auspicious but the internal environment is not, do you think it can be considered truly auspicious? Yet, if the external environment of a property is inauspicious, do you think the Fengshui of the internal environment alone is able to help greatly in changing the inauspicious situation?
What about Health then? In general, the external environment governs Health issues with regards to infections, accidents, emergencies, etc., whereas the internal environment governs those more related to chronic illnesses, constitution issues, etc. Hence, do you think one can ignore the internal environment even when the external environment is ideal?
The above examples given are on Wealth and Health. However, we know our life concerns are not merely limited to these two. Marriage, Relationship, Children, Fertility, Academic, Nobility, etc., are concerns that are close to our hearts as well. It is important to know that these concerns too, have their own distinction between External and Internal Environment and usage differences in Fengshui assessment!
Recognizing the importance of the external environment in Fengshui is indeed the first step in proper understanding of Fengshui. The next important step is on understanding the distinction between External and Internal Environment and usage differences in Fengshui assessment, a subject that is not widely mentioned outside, and an area which I intend to address further in the Xuan Kong Liu Fa Practical Application Course. The correct understanding and application of this knowledge marks a further step in one’s knowledge in the practical application of Fengshui principles, beyond merely the theoretical understanding.

It has been a while since my last post, been kept busy conducting Fengshui assessments and preparation for the planned Xuan Kong Liu Fa Practical Application Course in the coming months. Reading through my articles, one will notice that I placed great importance on the external environment (外局) during Fengshui assessment, a point which I have emphasized repeatedly. Thus far, through interactions with clients, queries from readers, etc, it has been heartening to know that many now pays more attention to how the Fengshui of the external environment affects them, as compared to the past, where many tend to focus solely on the Fengshui of the internal environment (内局) of the property.
