Entering your bedroom, study room or office, where is your bed, study or work desk located? In terms of Interior Landform Fengshui (内峦头), what is the ideal layout for the bed, study or work desk?

Lately, I have received several enquiries from readers seeking advice on the interior layout of their property. Though in some cases, there are other considerations that first need to be assessed, there are, nevertheless, Fengshui basics where one can easily self understood and apply for an ideal bed, study or work desk placement.

In general, with regards to Interior Landform Fengshui (形峦 - 内峦头) considerations, below are simple illustrations on the bed and study or work desk layout for an ideal 内峦头 Fengshui.

Why is the location of the bed, study or work desk illustrated above considered an ideal layout in terms of Interior Landform Fengshui? What are the Fengshui influences as a result of having the bed, study or work desk in an ideal (or inappropriate) layout?

Mention about Landform Fengshui, what comes to mind of many people may be the Fengshui terms “Green Dragon 青龙” (Left), “White Tiger 白虎” (Right), “Red Phoenix 朱雀” (Front), “Black Turtle 玄武” (Back), and the do’s and don’ts for each.

For Interior Landform Fengshui, the principles and application behind these four mystical celestial animals (四方之四兽) are considered the fundamentals. Yet till today, with regards to 四方之四兽, there is still a lack of correct understanding and application of it by many practitioners.

For example, why should there be a ‘support (后靠)’ behind our bed, study or work desk? Among many sayings, one of the more common sayings is that having ‘support’ behind our bed, study or work desk symbolically means having the support of 贵人, etc. But how does one know if such understanding is correct? In a literal sense?

But what about those situations where it is not uncommon to find most employees having a lack of ‘support’ behind their work desk, as commonly found in the workplace? Does it mean they are more susceptible to 小人, as opposed to others? Such layout, in some cases, are considered ideal In terms of Interior Landform Fengshui. Why?

Since the Way of Fengshui is (风水之道) is inseparable from 《易》, the answers to these questions must thus be derived and explained by 易理, and not literally. One should not 知其然而不知其所以然!

Hence, What and How is the ideal layout for Interior Landform Fengshui derived and explained according to 易理? What and How are the Fengshui influences as a result of having the bed, study or work desk in an ideal (or inappropriate) layout derived and explained according to 易理, and not simply literally?

行道者要知明, 求道者要辩明! Regardless of what Fengshui understandings and applications, it is imperative first, to fully comprehend  《易》. The Way of Fengshui is the study and application of the Principles or Way of Nature (自然之道), and 《易》 being one’s study and learning of the Nature, Fengshui is thus inseparable from 《易》.

Since in essence, the heart of 《易》 is on Hetu (河图), Luo Shu (洛书), Early Heaven Ba Gua (先天八卦) and Later Heaven Ba Gua (后天八卦), the correct understanding of just these four will allow one to comprehend not only the 易理 behind the terms “青龙, 白虎, 朱雀, 玄武”, but also the principles and application for Interior Landform Fengshui as well. 《易》本是道，真理必然至简，方能《以简御繁》啊!
