During the period of ancient China, executions are often carried out during the time of 午时三刻. What is the basis behind this chosen time? A common understanding is that it is a time where Yang Qi is strong (阳气旺盛) and as such, aptly for suppressing Yin Qi arising out of executions.

Though this understanding is not wrong, it is actually only half right. What then is the other half? More importantly, what are the implications for date selection?
