Besides the Fengshui of a Property in which we dwell or work in having negative or positive influences over us, what are other factors that can also exert influences over us? This was the question asked at the end of the previous article, where I have shared what a Fengshui Assessment for a property entails.

In this article, I shall share with you another factor that is equally as important as the Fengshui of the Property. At this point, I am quite sure the words Ba Zi (八字) have crossed many people’s mind. But no, the factor I am referring to is Name (姓名). One may asked, why it is Name, a mere two or three words, and not Ba Zi?

Upon our birth, the potential, merits and shortcomings with regards to each of our life aspects can be observed from our Ba Zi. However, these innate characteristics are heavily influenced by our later life circumstances (后天), such as the environment one is exposed to. Which is why, even if one’s Ba Zi or 命格 is ideal, the positive aspects of it may never be materialized if one does not know how to manage well one’s later life. Likewise, if one knows how to manage well one’s later life, one can also enjoy success even with a non ideal 命格.

Borrowing a phrase, “All Roads Lead to Rome”. Each of us upon birth may have different starting point and different innate advantages or disadvantages over one another (先天). However, as the journey begins, it is possible that those with the most shortcomings and/ or with the furthest starting point may find his or her later life path to Rome relatively smooth as compared with the rest (后天)! This is indeed possible, through the correct choices made and proper management of our later life or one’s life journey along the way.

In that case, what then are the later life factors (后天因素) that have strong positive or negative influences over us? Other than the Fengshui of the property we dwell or work in, our Name is the other important later life factor.

Having a good name is akin to having positive influences surround us, be it in career, relationship etc. Furthermore, just like Ba Zi, our Name is also able to tell us our potential, merits, shortcomings, etc., with regards to the various life aspects. However, more significantly, our Name is actually a guide to success (成功指南) for our later life pursuit, revealing the path and focus suitable for us, highlighting the different yearly opportunities ahead of us, guiding us on the ideal choice we should take at each crossroads, warning us ahead of any potential problems, etc., where these knowledge are essentially the crux and purpose of 算命. Yes, simply from our Name, a mere two or three characters.

Taking the case of 梁智強 extramarital affair this year as an example, simply from the names, it is not difficult to see why such particular problem occurs, and why in March 2010 this year, the affair was exposed to the public. This problem however, is obviously pertaining to the marriage/ relationship aspect. As for other life aspects such as career, just from the name, one can also understand why 梁智強 enjoyed phenomenal success and fame in the Singapore film industry in the year 1998, the year he ventured into filmmaking with his debut movie.

Clearly, if one is able to know in advance, from his or her name, the ideal path, focus, potential, merits, shortcomings, opportunities, etc., with regards to his or her various life aspects, be it relationship, career, health, wealth, etc., he or she will be able to make the necessary correct choices or actions beforehand so as to have a smoother path towards success in life. And most important of all, since Name is part of later life factor (后天), it means it is within our control; that is, a good Name can be chosen for our children, or if necessary and conditions are met, one’s name can also be changed for a better one!

Lastly, one’s name obviously has a direct influence on him or her personally. But does the name of your husband or wife and/ or children have any influence on you? Yes, in fact they do!
